Ohio movie fans may have heard that actress Halle Berry has concluded part of her dispute with her model ex-boyfriend. The two have been embroiled in a custody dispute since 2012. The ruling by a Los Angeles Superior Court judge involved a partial child support settlement.

The case involves the Oscar award-winning actress, her model ex-boyfriend and the former couple’s six-year-old daughter. Berry has since had another child, an eight-month-old, with her current husband. In 2012, Berry and her ex-boyfriend were engaged in a custody dispute which ultimately resulted in a judge blocking the actress from moving the former couple’s child to France with her. The settlement agreement only concerns child support payments and not any underlying custody issues.

The judge approved the child support settlement on May 30. According to the terms of the agreement, Berry must pay a retroactive amount of child support of $115,000. Additionally, she agreed to pay $300,000 for the expenses and fees he incurred during the former couple’s custody dispute. From this point forward, Berry will be required to pay $16,000 each month in child support, amounting to about $200,000 annually. Finally, Berry is required to pay for her daughter’s tuition payments and half of her health care expenses.

Individuals who are raising their children may choose to pursue child support if they are not receiving financial assistance from the other parent. The amount of child support that is ultimately awarded is typically based off of a child support formula. However, the amount can deviate from this amount if there are special circumstances, such as a high cost of living, excessive medical expenses, abnormal health care costs or other circumstances that provide for such a deviation.
